James P. Yhip, M.D., FACC

James Yhip, M.D., is an Invasive Cardiologist/Interventional Cardiologist who joined the Amarillo Heart Group September 1, 2021. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiovascular Disease and Nuclear Cardiology.
Dr. Yhip graduated from medical school at Loma Linda University as Alpha Omega Alpha. For a time, he trained in Radiation Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He completed his Internal Medicine training at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles; Cardiovascular fellowship at the University of Texas, in Houston, where he also served as Chief Fellow; and, Interventional Cardiovascular Fellowship at Arizona Heart Institute in Phoenix. He received recognition in medical school as MacPherson Society Outstanding Student researcher; Internal Medicine Solomon Scholar Resident Research Award, and Cardiovascular Fellowship Bristol Myers Cardiology Fellow Research Award.
Dr. Yhip specializes in treatment of cardiovascular disease and peripheral arterial conditions. He performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in addition to nonprocedural management of these disorders. He also specializes in the techniques of rotational coronary and peripheral atherectomy, laser coronary and peripheral atherectomy, excisional atherectomy, orbital atherectomy, intravascular ultrasound, pressure wire, optical coherence tomography, and Impella heart support device. He has routinely been performing radial (from the wrist) heart catheterization and angiography since 2012 and same day discharge of elective coronary angioplasty since 2014.
